ANORAK

Capture

First launched in 2006 by a Mum frustrated by the lack of good kids magazines available on the market, Anorak – the Happy Mag for Kids – is aimed at children (boys AND girls) aged 6+ and is sold worldwide on the newsstand, in kids boutiques, museum shops and bookshops.

Published four times a year, every issue has a theme (inspired by the British National Curriculum) to inspire and encourage kids to tap into their natural creativity and learn while having fun. Every edition has plenty of beautifully illustrated stories, games and activities to keep your little ones’ creative cells buzzing!

I picked up this particular issue in my local book shop Ottie & the Bea. I had been eyeing up their website for a while and was eager to get a copy.

To my delight I found two illustrators who have illustrated magpies for me. The excellent Ben Javens and the very magpies that Rachael Saunders sent me.

OKIDO The Arts and Science Magazine for Kids

Okido is the brainchild of multimedia designer and scientist, Dr Sophie Dauvois and illustrator Rachel Ortas, and is beautifully illustrated by contemporary artists and designers.

OKIDO

It’s recommended for children between 3 – 8, this is just a guideline though: I’m 32 and absolutely love the magazine.

My local children’s bookshop Ottie & the Bea sells the magazine and always has a few back issues. I can never resist buying a few.

You can also subscribe to the magazine through their website.

Inside and Out: New York by Josh Cochran

New York is the first title in a new series of highly illustrated two-metre-wide dioramas. (I hope they plan to do on London next.)

Explore an iconic city inside out with this GIANT doubled-sided wallchart. Take a stroll past New York’s best-known buildings and try to spot over 80 objects as you go in this 2-metre-wide game of search and find.

Flip the chart to see behind the scenes, with cut-aways that reveal what the city gets up to behind closed doors…
